Italy vs Argentina Match Review

The first friendly between to the two nations for 12 years occurred last night in honour of Pope Francis who was born in Argentina to Italian parents. The players had visited the Pope in the Vatican and later the Pope said that he did not know who he wanted to win.

Italy had to start without a few key players such as Mario Balotelli meanwhile Argentina also had a few players missing none other than Leo Messi. Despite Messi not playing Argentina started the better team while Italy started slowly and Argentina got what they deserved in the 20th minute when Napoli new boy Gonzalo Higuain gave a few Serie A defenders a fright as he thundered in the goal. Argentina stayed on top and at half time Cesare Prandelli made three changes to try and win the game back but this didn't work and it wasn't too long till Argentina got their second where once again Higuain impressed to pick out Ever Banega who slotted home from 18 yards. Despite this Italy didn't give up and in the 77th minute they managed to pull one back in the shape of Lorenzo Insigne but this wasn't enough to get Italy back in the game and the friendly in honour of Pope Francis ended in a 2-1 win to Argentina.
